Welcome to pig keeping courses in The Lake District

Supporting the pedigree breeding of Rare and Traditional British pigs.

This is a comprehensive pig keeping course, which aims to give people to knowledge and confidence to keep pigs and finish them for the freezer. Equally, it is a useful day for those wanting to keep pigs they don’t want to eat! Carole keeps British Lops, one of the rarest of traditional breed pigs. Some of her pigs are finished for the freezer, some are sold for fattening and some will be sold as excellent breeding stock. She has shown her pigs around the country and won the prestigious “Lop of the Year” title. The course covers the important legalities around keeping pigs and the day to day management. Carole is keen that people bring lots of questions about their own buildings, land and aspirations so the day is relevant to them. Outdoor clothing is a must, wellington boots essential and overalls a strong suggestion. Please bring a change of clothing as you may not wish to travel home smelling like a pig!

The courses are run on Saturdays but if this doesn’t suit you weekdays maybe a possibility.

Dear Carole and John,

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful time myself, and my 11 year old son Harry, had on your pig keeping and pig showing courses. As well as being really informative the courses were good fun. I especially wanted to thank you for letting my son Harry show one of your pigs at the Great Yorkshire show. He won a rosette and it was a day we will both always remember.

Ian and Harry.
